Writing Prompt Wednesday- Poetry

Poetic Noise

Whether we are conscious of it or not, we are always taking in sounds.

Today’s prompt is asking you to focus on a particular sound.

For the first five minutes, jot down every sound you hear. It could be music, people dragging their feet on the floor, honking horns, people talking on cell phones, whatever noise you hear should go on the paper.

Now, take one of those sounds and really focus in on the sound. Can you hear a pattern? What colors do you think of when you hear the sound? What phrases come to mind? It all goes down. This should be another five minutes of free writing about the sound.

For your assignment, I want you to write a poem about that sound. It could be a description of the sound or it could be about a person who would make that sound. The possibilities are only limited to your imagination.
