Writing Prompt Wednesday- Poetry

Uncategorized

The prompt for today will focus on poetry in order to celebrate National Poetry Month. However, if a short story, piece of flash fiction or anything else comes from this, then it’s a win/win.

As we all know, word choice is paramount in poetry. In addition to word choice being important, it is especially important to pay attention to the grammar of the words. Look at the types of verbs and nouns used in your own work. We will be focusing on nouns and verbs for this prompt today.

Below will be three groups of words. Try writing one of the groups of words into a poem. First use the words as nouns. Then try a new poem with the words as verbs. If you want a real challenge, use the words in the first stanza as nouns and in the second stanza flip them into verbs. Again, pick whichever group speaks to you the most.
